Treating adults is different than treating children. Kids aren’t always able to be patient and cooperative during dental care appointments. Dr. Urquiaga can treat children using methods that help make them more comfortable and put them at ease. Also, Dr. Urquiaga’s practice has equipment designed for use in children's' dental.

What pediatric treatments does Dr. Urquiaga offer?
Dr. Urquiaga offers various pediatric dental treatments, including fluoride and sealant.
Fluoride
Over the past few decades, fluoride treatment has helped drastically reduce tooth decay. Fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in all water sources and is derived from the element fluorine. It reduces cavities in children and adults. Fluoride prevents tooth decay and cavities by fighting against acid attacks. It helps with:
- Strengthening teeth, making them more resistant to acid attacks
- Repairing, or remineralizing, areas already affected by acid attacks
You can get fluoride topically. Topical fluoride helps teeth already grown-in to become more resistant to decay. Topical fluoride can be an ingredient in toothpaste and mouthwash, and can be applied professionally by Dr. Urquiaga. He offers a variety of gels, foams, and rinses, which he applies when a child has decay or cavities. These fluoride treatments are more concentrated than those found in store-bought dental care products.
Sealant
Dr. Urquiaga also provides tooth sealants, which are thin coatings painted directly onto the chewing surfaces of teeth. They’re usually put on the premolars and molars (back teeth) to help stave off tooth decay. The painted-on liquid sealant bonds grooves of the teeth, creating a protecting barrier over the enamel of each tooth. Typically, children need sealants applied to their premolars and molars as soon as they come in.
