What are dental implants?
When a damaged tooth gets removed, it means losing both the visible part (the crown) and the root of the tooth. A dental implant is the closest thing you can get to natural, healthy teeth. The implant is a cylindrical, titanium post that serves as a substitute for the root of the tooth. Dr. Urquiaga will add a connector on top of the dental implant to bond the crown, bridge or denture.
Who needs dental implants?
Dental implants are a viable treatment option for adult patients. Implants may be the right choice for almost anyone missing teeth because of injury, defects, disease, or decay. With all of his patients, Dr. Urquiaga offers a thorough consultation that takes into account their needs and considers their full dental and medical history to see if dental implants are the right choice.
What are overdentures?
Overdentures are dentures kept in place by dental implants. They snap down on top of 2 or 4 implants, which will give the denture strong retention as well as stability.
If you would like a prosthesis that is fixed in place and can not be removed, another option is to place a minimum of 6 to 8 dental implants into the jaw and Dr. Claudio can fabricate a fixed full denture.
What are the benefits of overdentures or a fixed full denture?
Overdentures have many benefits:
- They promote better digestion than other dentures that aren’t supported by implants
- They’re more comfortable than other dentures
- They slow bone loss by stimulating the jaw bone
- They help maintain your facial features and structure
Dr. Urquiaga can recommend the best treatment to replace your missing teeth. Due to advancements in dental implant practices and techniques, many people are now prime candidates for implant-supported overdentures.
